Wine Gang Member of the Month- December
Theres a history Jon & Lynn Guess share with Galante. Introduced to the wines at the Taste of Monterey; Jon was looking for a “nice, upscale” bottle for a gift at Christmas………And so, the love affair began with Blackjack Pasture 11 years ago. Jon fell over the top and Galante has been his go-to ever since. In fact, 50% of their cellar is Galante wines including a Blackjack vertical beginning with 2005! After this Christmas it will be slightly less tho, as Santa is bringing 50 Saddlepack boxes packaged with 150 Galante wines…. home for the holidays. Lyn is enamored with Bulls Eye High. It was love at first sight, or shall we say taste…. Although, the bottle itself is rather a kick!Their most treasured bottle in the cellar is a vintage 1.5L Hock Magnum from 1994, etched with Red Roses. Presently, it contains 2012 Blackjack, until the next refill - - when Jon will proudly package up his prized Galante bottle in its custom wooden case, and send it back for what will likely be 2013 Blackjack Pasture. The Guess’s have earned their bragging rights as Foreman in the Wine Gang - but their real claim to fame is the one and only correct answer in the trivia competition at the Wine Gang Muster this year. “What was only year Blackjack Pasture was not bottled?”
Hmmmm……

Wine Gang of the Month- November
Meet the Galante Vineyards Members of the Month for November-Clair Grueter & Mary Cuddy
One particular outing down the coast from San Francisco, Dad and Nana Claire stopped in beautiful Carmel-by-the-Sea, and wandered down the little path that leads to the Galante Tasting Room. Well, since that day they have returned several times since, as loyal members of the Galante Gang. Mary Clarie, a Trailboss, enjoys the 2014 Almond Flat Pinot Noir, and son Dan, a fan of the 2012 Malbec.
We are so glad to have the Grueter/Cuddy clan as part of our Gang family for generations to come!
Congrats & a big thank you for your patronage!

October Member of the Month
This months Gang of the Month is Linda Schultz, a Trailboss from Maine.
Coast to coast, Linda finds herself sharing our wines with friends & family at home, at the beach, by the lakes. A newcomer to California, discovering the Carmel Valley AVA is a true diamond in the rough. "Wine with a little backbone", she calls it. More than anything, she likes a red that pairs nicely with food, and not competing for attention. Next trip out, she and her husband plan a tour at the winery with Jack. Maybe sneak a peek at what’s on the horizon for 2016! (and hopefully a taste or two!)
Linda’s favorite Galante: Our bold Blackjack Pasture is a worthy companion beside a cowboy steak! Second to none: Bulls Eye Red. A rich and decadent pairing with chocolate lava cake & vanilla ice-cream. Tried & True!
Words of Wisdom: Wine; because no great story ever started over salad !
Congrats & a big thank you for your patronage!

August Member of the Month
Meet our August Members of the Month,the Quismundo’s! Loyal Wranglers who favor a sip of Jack’s Cowboy Cuvee before dinner in Carmel. Always a very welcome & friendly addition to the tasting room when we see these two members mosey on in…..
Says Jean Quismundo, "Galante wines caught our attention when we were invited to a barbecue at the ranch by a wine gang member. Finding the tasting room in Carmel has given us more than just a place to get our Galante wine fix. As empty-nesters with close family and friends afar, the tasting room’s friendly, welcoming staff and the great people we meet visiting from around the world helps fill the void."
Shucks, we're all a blush.....mighty nice words, Jean!
1. Jean’s favorite Galante “Go To”? 2012 Cowboy Cuvee Cabernet Sauvignon
2. Wine Words of Wisdom "Always think of something to toast to. Someone’s health is always a good one!”
Congrats & a big thank you for your patronage!

June Member of the Month
Congratulations Randy Wight you're the Galante Wine Gang Member of the Month for June! Randy has been a faithful fan of Galante Vineyards since the very beginning. On a recent visit to the tasting room with his lovely wife LInda, and amazing Canine Companion Neo, Randy recalled the meeting Jack at an event and tasting the 1994 Blackjack Pasture Cabernet Sauvignon, (which at that time was a current vintage). Randy's love of Blackjack was instant, and has continued ever since. We are truly grateful to all the years of support that Randy and Linda have shown us, and its our pleasure to recoginze them as our members of the month!!
Here are a few fun facts about our winner:
1. Randy's favorite Galante "Go To"?- Blackjack Pasture, of course!
2. Wine Words of Wisdom- "Drink what you like with what you like to eat, don't follow the rules."

Blackjack is Back! |
|||
![]() I know – it has been a long wait, but we have finally released our new 2012 Blackjack Pasture Cabernet Sauvignon ($55/btl). I hope you agree that it was worth the wait. 2012 was a stellar vintage, producing wines of exceptional flavor. Our Blackjack Pasture has a nose of dark berries and roasted cocoa bean and flavors of dark chocolate, blackberries and a hint of toasted oak. The tannins are rich and chewy providing a lengthy finish. While quite youthful, this wine already drinks beautifully and will only continue to improve with age, as with all our previous Blackjack Pasture Cabernets. Jack’s Saddlebag – Eliud on the Way to Recovery |
|||
You may have heard that Eliud, our fabulous vineyard manager and friend for the past 30 years, suffered a serious stroke several months ago. After a lengthy stay in the ICU, Eliud transferred to a rehab center for about a month and then, a few weeks ago, he returned home to continue his rehabilitation. We are happy to report that Eliud has been able to get rid of his wheelchair and is now even walking on his own with no assistance! He is truly a fighter and has no intention of staying down for long. Naturally full recovery will take a long time, but we are confident he will succeed. Shortly after Eliud’s incident, we started a fundraising effort to assist Eliud and his family during these difficult times. We are absolutely blown away by all the support the community and our winery friends have shown. We are close to achieving our fundraising goal so if you would like to make a donation please visit our You Caring site. Thanks again for all your well wishes and positive thoughts. Cheers! |

Help Eliud Get Back to the Ranch
Many of you know Eliud, our great friend and vineyard manager of the past 30 years. On Thursday, January 22nd, Eliud suffered a major hemorrhagic stroke while at work near the upper part of our ranch. No one was aware that anything happened until he did not show up later in the evening and, after an extensive search, we found Eliud about 100 yards down a ravine where he had tumbled after suffering the stroke. This was about 8 to 10 hours after his stroke. With the help of CalFire emergency services and the great Cachagua Fire Department volunteers, we had him air lifted to the Natividad Hospital Trauma Center in Salinas. The following day we had him transported to UCSF so he would receive the finest medical services available. His neurosurgeon believes that, although there is significant trauma, Eliud is strong and will make a full recovery, barring any unforeseen setbacks. That being said, it will be a long recovery and will take a lot of rehabilitation once he is out of the woods.
Eliud was born in Guatemala in 1960, one of four children. His mother and stepfather, Bralio, emigrated to the US while Eliud remained in Guatemala to finish his education in electronics. With no great future ahead of him in Guatemala he headed for the US in 1982. Eliud’s stepfather was working at the time for our neighbor, Durney Vineyards. Bralio asked my father if we might have a position for his young stepson and Eliud started working on the ranch in 1984 as a ranch hand. Over the next few years Eliud’s responsibilities increased and he moved into a small house on the property. In 1986 we had our first grape harvest and in 1987 Eliud married his wife, Maria. In December 1989, through hard work and dedication, Eliud became our official vineyard manager. Eliud moved into a larger house on the ranch where he has raised his three children and a grandchild. To this day, Eliud manages not only the entire ranch and cattle business but also the vineyards. Eliud is the finest person I know and I’m sure those of you who also know Eliud will certainly agree with me.
Naturally, Dawn and I are doing everything we can to assist Eliud and his family both financially and emotionally, and we provide Eliud with health insurance which will cover many of his medical expenses. However, the family will face many challenges and have significant expenses in addition to those that the insurance covers and what we can assist with. The community outreach has been unbelievable and all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes have been so well received and have truly helped Eliud’s recovery. We ask you now if you can assist in any way possible to help create a fund for Eliud and his family to get them through these difficult times. Dawn and I would like to start this fund with a $1,000 donation and we hope you will assist us in achieving or even exceeding our goal of $25,000 over the next few months.
On behalf of Eliud and his family, many thanks to all for your continued good wishes and support.

Jack’s Saddlebag – The Real Scoop |
|||
In ancient Israel, it came to pass that a trader by the name of Abraham Com did take unto himself a healthy young wife by the name of Dorothy. And Dot Com was a homely woman, large of breast, broad of shoulder and long of leg. Indeed, she was often called Amazon Dot Com. And she said unto Abraham, her husband, "Why dost thou travel so far from town to town with thy goods when thou canst trade without ever leaving thy tent?" And Abraham did look at her as though she were several saddle bags short of a camel load, but simply said, "How, dear?" And Dot replied, "I will place drums in all the towns and drums in between to send messages saying what you have for sale, and they will reply telling you who hath the best price. The sale can be made on the drums and delivery made by Uriah's Pony Stable (UPS)." Abraham thought long and decided he would let Dot have her way with the drums. And the drums rang out and were an immediate success. Abraham sold all the goods he had at the top price, without ever having to move from his tent. To prevent neighboring countries from overhearing what the drums were saying, Dot devised a system that only she and the drummers knew. It was known as Must Send Drum Over Sound (MSDOS), and she also developed a language to transmit ideas and pictures - Hebrew To The People (HTTP). And the young men did take to Dot Com's trading, as doth the greedy horsefly take to camel dung. They were called Nomadic Ecclesiastical Rich Damascus Sybarites, or NERDS. And lo, the land was so feverish with joy at the new riches and the deafening sound of drums that no one noticed that the real riches were going to that enterprising drum dealer, Brother William of Gates, who bought off every drum maker in the land. Indeed he did insist on drums to be made that would work only with Brother Gates' drum heads and drum sticks. And Dot did say, "Oh, Abraham, what we have started is being taken over by others. “And Abraham looked out over the Bay of Ezekiel , or eBay as it came to be known. He said, "We need a name that reflects what we are." And Dot replied, "Young Ambitious Hebrew Owner Operators." "YAHOO," said Abraham. And because it was Dot's idea, they named it YAHOO Dot Com. Abraham's cousin, Joshua, being the young Gregarious Energetic Educated Kid (GEEK) that he was, soon started using Dot's drums to locate things around the countryside. It soon became known as God's Own Official Guide to Locating Everything (GOOGLE). That is how it all began. Cheers! |

Jack’s Saddlebag – Be Nice |
|||
A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird’s mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird’s attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to ‘clean up’ the bird’s vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more obnoxious. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he’d hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John’s outstretched arms and said “I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I’m sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior.” John was stunned at the change in the bird’s attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird spoke-up, very softly, “May I ask what the turkey did?” Cheers! |
